I know I haven't posted for quite some time but I was waxing nostalgic about my old blog (here) and got to reading some old post and decided I should share something exciting going on in my life.<br />
<br />
If you followed along, you'll see that I was heavy into watercolor. Well, it didn't get any better! LOL.<br />
I've been working very hard these past couple years and this June 10 I will be opening for my own exhibition at the <a href="http://albrecht-kemper.org/exhibitions/personal-effects-watercolors-by-lana-cease/" target="_blank">Albrecht-Kemper Museum of Art in St Joseph, MO</a>.<br />
<br />
I will be exhibiting a line of realistic pieces featuring mostly antique things, many that give me fond memories of my childhood.<br />
<br />
My opening reception is from 4-7 on June 10 and at that time there's no charge to enter the museum. I will be in both Campbell galleries on the lower level.<br />
<br />
I just want to say that this is probably one of the biggest dreams of my life. Hopefully there'll be even more but this is a huge accomplishment for me and I'd love to have you there with me!<br />
<br />
I've missed my blog at times. Maybe I'll try to post more!<br />
Thanks for those of you that have always followed along.Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-20890421101558163592013-12-29T12:24:00.003-06:002015-05-13T16:51:02.802-05:00Acquisitions and updatesFirst, I must say, sorry I don't post much any more. Why? Well, I have a pretty successful business (2 actually), I'm old and tired, I've been painting instead of blogging (which I find amazingly relaxing and more productive), I feel like I've run out of things to say sometimes, and lastly, I'm not sure much of anyone cares! I'll update once in a while. I swear. The big stuff mostly, it's too mundane for me to post pictures of bees or snowflakes anymore. I might paint them though!<br />
<br />
So, we have some acquisitions in the house since I last posted. Let me share:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Acquisition #1:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We acquired this guy:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-snHLYdV1YhQ/VVPHMlotmOI/AAAAAAAAE6M/UDS7EpiqvNI/s1600/smImg_3394.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-snHLYdV1YhQ/VVPHMlotmOI/AAAAAAAAE6M/UDS7EpiqvNI/s1600/smImg_3394.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
His name is Harley (I'll explain why in a min). This was him when he was about 2 months old. He's a boxer/black lab mix and an absolute pain in the ass. (As are most dogs) but he's sure sweet and loving when he's not chewing on your arm.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About a day before we got Harley, we got Harley.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Acquisition #2:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0gfAXA56lE/UUEkT0B-BII/AAAAAAAAAXc/CafcQSDY90s/s1600/daebf1030a0d02b701e9d0cc447c16ba.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="384" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Z0gfAXA56lE/UUEkT0B-BII/AAAAAAAAAXc/CafcQSDY90s/s640/daebf1030a0d02b701e9d0cc447c16ba.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
(I didn't take this photo)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We went to Harley to buy a hat. Yes, a HAT. We came out with a brand new 2013 Harley Wide Glide which looks close to this one in the pic. That <strike>son-of-bitch</strike> salesman that sold us the first bike was there, and we get to talking. I've learned a valuable lesson. There's a LOT OF PLAY in a brand new vehicle. Straight of the show room floor you can make great deals, especially at the end of the year. We are the only people that have ever ridden this bike. It had .1 mile on it when we took it for a test drive. Needless to day, we started making ridiculous demands and they said yes to everything! We ended up getting everything back we'd put into the first bike ($$) PLUS $20. LOL. Seemed stupid NOT to buy the new bike and trade in the old one.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So, Gene said that he got a Harley, so I should get a Harley (dog) and that's how he got his name. I maintain that my Harley will cost a lot more in the long run.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Acquisition #3:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/CeaseWatercolorArts" target="_blank">My Etsy Watercolor shop</a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did the show at the Albrecht-Kemper museum in St. Joseph, MO again this fall and made a LOT OF STUFF. I had some stuff left over so I thought I'd open an etsy shop to sell some of it. It's been going GREAT. Very happy with how it's turned out and I sold a lot for Christmas. It's a good way to keep painting, get rid of a few things and make other people happy at the same time. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Acquisition #4:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Work space. I thought I had taken a photo and put it on my computer, but alas, I probably deleted it. I think I took like 10 photos in November total for myself. I suck at stuff like that anymore I guess. :( Just too busy taking photos for other people to enjoy taking photos for myself. Anyway, we have rented a small space and are adding some drywall, etc to make it into some temporary work space for me to shoot in. I'll be focusing on Couture Beauty Portraits, ala <a href="https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&site=imghp&tbm=isch&source=hp&biw=1613&bih=835&q=sue+bryce&oq=sue+bryce&gs_l=img.3..0l10.1643.4022.0.4166.9.7.0.2.2.0.207.967.1j5j1.7.0....0...1ac.1.32.img..1.8.833.DQlSxNap-UA" target="_blank">Sue Bryce.</a> I'm pretty excited about it. I've been really sick the entire month of December and haven't been able to work on the space at all. I'll share for SURE when we get it done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Acquisition #5:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Not really an acquisition as of yet, but Gene is finishing up his first novelette that he'll be releasing on Amazon in the next few days. He's been a writing machine lately. I bought him a writing class this fall that lasted 7 weeks (one night a week) and it reignited his passion for writing. He's written one full novel, several novelettes and a short story. He's always been a great storyteller (he tells me the best stuff that happened to him when he was a kid that just makes me belly laugh, I'm trying to get him to write some of those stories down!).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I have worked on the cover for him for the book. I painted it and then worked on it in photoshop. Probably not my best work ever, but I think it helps tell the story. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
His stories lean towards murder mysteries/sci fi and he's improved greatly since he first started. His instructor told him that he has incredible talented and that it would be a waste if he didn't do something with it. Do I think we'll be millionaires? Well, maybe, if anyone could it's him. But in the meantime he's doing it for fun and keeping his day job!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'll share the link when the book gets up!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I hope you enjoyed our update now that you know what's been going on in our lives. I could promise to post more often, but I don't want to lie to you. What I will say, is I'll try to post interesting things as they happen so you know we're not dead yet.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Happy New year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Totally overwhelmed.
<br />
Fer realz.
<br />
<br />
I've determined that if I don't sleep for the next 3.2 months, I will be half way caught up with my life.
On the flip side, creating some of the best work I've ever done. <br /> Check out my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/ceasefirestudios" target="_blank">facebook page</a> for my latest stuff. It seems it's the one place I can keep updated. <br />
<br />
I'm learning to say no.<br />
<br />
No, I don't need to make banana bread just because the bananas are going bad.<br />
No, I don't need to keep a coffee mug just because I had it when I was 9.<br />
No, I can't take on any more projects, jobs, dreams, money making ventures, etc.<br />
<br />
I've hardly any time for myself anymore and I've come to hate summer because of it. Which is pretty sad considering it's been an awesome summer.<br />
<br />
In other news, my step son is moving in with us soon and that's really pushing my anxiety levels. I've emptied the guest room. Now cleaning Tanner's "empty" room (he's gone off to school and is staying in town). My dining room is stacked to the hilt with crap I need to sell off this weekend. I've said NO to selling antiques but I'm *this close* to just putting it in tubs in storage. Which would be really bad news. I'd leave it there another year for sure.<br />
<br />
Oh, and I'm getting a studio. Gotta remodel that in the process.<br />
I'm thinking having Michael (step-son) here will be a good thing, maybe he'll be able to help out us old folks a bit.<br />
<br />
So many things I'd love to share, but I have to get back to editing, you know, those dang brides want to see their photos!<br />
How dare they!Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-25359900086781424022013-07-21T16:57:00.000-05:002013-07-21T16:57:04.314-05:00feeling hot hot hot<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the summer slug of it all. Trying to keep up with all the photos everyone wants, and have some sort of life at the same time. Blogs are being neglected! However, I wanted to share this photo, pretty proud of how it turned out. One of my families I've done all their photography for around 3-4 years now. They love wacky out there sort of ideas, and their youngest (a senior this year) was no different.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
This is a composite shot of three images (senior, chair on fire with background and dramatic sky). Probably have around 2-3 hours worth of editing in it. It's not *exactly* how I pictured it, but it's pretty close. Had to learn a whole much of new things to make this photo look realistic.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I love conceptual work. If I could shoot nothing but concepts the rest of my life I'd be a happy little bunny.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

Thank you all for still checking in, and heck, I even appreciate the anonymous hang up call (pretty sure I know where that came from). lol.<br />
<br />
I think I just needed a break from the blog for a while. I've been doing this for around 7 years now fairly regularly so I must have needed some free time to relax. I've been trying to write a post for a month now. Finally decided to just do it and get it done, because I'll have way too much to update everyone on if I don't.<br />
<br />
Here's some of the things that's been going on in my life.<br />
<br />
- Tanner Graduated from high school. I know, right? <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/941666_10201227512636993_400176839_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ash3/941666_10201227512636993_400176839_n.jpg" width="475" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Pretty proud of that kid. He's not an honor roll kid, but he's a leader and being a leader will get you a long way in the world. He was the head of the relay for life team for his entire work place (which is a big deal for an 18yo) and they keep talking to him about moving into a management position. He could totally do it and make career of it too - while going to college.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/944244_10201185314702071_1421724396_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-b-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-frc1/944244_10201185314702071_1421724396_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He also had his last prom. It was the same day as his girlfriend's high school graduation, there was a bit of stress over the whole thing, but we all worked it out ok.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My little sister had her baby. Her name is Bristol and she's probably the cutest baby in the world (mainly because she looks like me). Whodathunk it? My baby sister has her own baby. She's a really good mom.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The irony of my baby graduating just days before she was born was not lost on me.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I've been trying to paint more for fun lately (obviously). I also painted a set of Harry Potter wands which turned out pretty awesome, they are not scanned yet. I probably will add them to an etsy and sell prints. I'm saving every nickel I make from painting on a dream vacation. I don't know where the location is yet, but when I get a few grand saved up, I'm out of here. Most likely I'll come back with a tan in the process.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of painting, I signed up for an acrylic painting class for the summer. Pretty excited about it. I love hanging out with other creatives.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
******</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Speaking of Harry Potter, I have been reading a lot. I finished all the HP books and now I'm half way through the Hunger Game's trilogy. I have only wanted to slit my wrists about 6 times. I'm crossing my fingers that it gets a little less depressing soon. I keep dreaming I'm Katniss and the world is kicking my ass.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I think all this reading screens is blowing out my eyes. I really need glasses but I've been in denial. Plus I don't know how to shoot with glasses on. I've been depending on the camera a lot to be in focus on it's own. So far it's working.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

While looking for photos for Tanner's graduation slideshow dvd I made him (which was really hard for me because I had no idea what I was doing), I found the first photo I took of the house:</div>

<a href="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/969340_10201273471825944_1531943281_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://fbcdn-sphotos-d-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-prn2/969340_10201273471825944_1531943281_n.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm so amazed how different it looks now than it did back then so I thought I'd share with you what we do on almost every free weekend we have:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So many new things here that weren't there before like a whole new porch, brand new roof, the front door was switched with the window. It's not done yet but it looks like a completely different house now. I think the neighbors have finally decided that we're not white trash after all.</div>

Right now we're lining the inside of the living room wall (facing the front of the house) with carsiding wood tongue and groove. It's really pretty! Eventually the house will be covered with log cabin siding so we're going with a rustic feel to everything we do in the house.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

The glass shop is doing well. If he's not installing glass, he's out beating the streets drumming up business and making sales calls. Failure is unlikely with him, and even then he'd go down with a major fight. Gene said the other day "I never thought I'd see numbers like this again." That's a big deal for him. He's turned into a fairly optimistic kind of guy. He's definitely happier than he's ever been in his life, and it's not just about business either.</div>

I told Gene multiple times over the winter that we needed to install it early in the year because by the time summer came around it was gonna be hotter than a motha.<br />
<br />
I think he agreed last summer with the deck was "lesson learned". Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today.<br />
<br />
So he unceremoniously picks up the phone and calls his buddy <a href="http://mz-cellaneous.blogspot.com/2007/07/being-in-relationship-has-other.html">Bobby</a> about a week ago to ask him to come up over the weekend to help with the door project. ARRGGHH... that means I'm going to have to get everything all spic and span for company.<br />
<br />
Which worked out ok, because in the end Bobby couldn't make it. That, however, didn't change our plans. We decided to move foward without him and try to install it ourselves. I've installed doors before (interior and exterior) and know that it's NOT an easy job to do, but felt confident it was something we could accomplish.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-529htCQiMOk/UXV3Yh5czdI/AAAAAAAAE1k/9jFAF_waUIY/s1600/04-22-frontdoors1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-529htCQiMOk/UXV3Yh5czdI/AAAAAAAAE1k/9jFAF_waUIY/s1600/04-22-frontdoors1.jpg" /></a></div>
Saturday we got up early and started the process The left you can see how it looks "before." Not very pretty is it? The window is going to become a big double door, and the old door, will become a smaller window.<br />
<br />
We got as far as getting all the drywall ripped out on the inside, then went to town to look at door handles... only they didn't have what I wanted and the selection was really limited so that meant a trip to St. Joe to see what they had.<br />
<br />
We found some nice ones, on sale, but by the the time we were done hemming and hawing over it, it was pretty much too late in the day to do anything else. Which is a GOOD thing because it was pretty cold to have your house open to the world for most of the day.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-18vrWoN6c20/UXV3ag5G0wI/AAAAAAAAE1s/BQgrseHmbpM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-18vrWoN6c20/UXV3ag5G0wI/AAAAAAAAE1s/BQgrseHmbpM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors2.jpg" /></a></div>
Sunday morning we didn't mess around. Got up and started ripping things out including all the insulation, windows, studs etc.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2jTZCVh_exg/UXV3cHpm2NI/AAAAAAAAE10/A88LOrFHj_Y/s1600/04-22-frontdoors3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-2jTZCVh_exg/UXV3cHpm2NI/AAAAAAAAE10/A88LOrFHj_Y/s1600/04-22-frontdoors3.jpg" /></a></div>
I went to town to run errands and I came home to a big hole in my house! Boo kitty always wants to help.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-933W67MpePU/UXV3fPqE28I/AAAAAAAAE18/KoJySVdNji0/s1600/04-22-frontdoors4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-933W67MpePU/UXV3fPqE28I/AAAAAAAAE18/KoJySVdNji0/s1600/04-22-frontdoors4.jpg" /></a></div>
Pretty much committed at this point. Don't mind my messy house, it's deconstructed if you haven't noticed.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WXOF8tNrnkg/UXV3gxEv6tI/AAAAAAAAE2E/sXSn2Oq9-VU/s1600/04-22-frontdoors5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WXOF8tNrnkg/UXV3gxEv6tI/AAAAAAAAE2E/sXSn2Oq9-VU/s1600/04-22-frontdoors5.jpg" /></a></div>
Here is the door all crated up. It's huge and takes 4 people to move the crate. Not much I can do with it with my bum shoulder and old lady hip.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ziOcyMTUbc/UXV3jA0DY8I/AAAAAAAAE2M/J6stjpR_gKc/s1600/04-22-frontdoors6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-1ziOcyMTUbc/UXV3jA0DY8I/AAAAAAAAE2M/J6stjpR_gKc/s1600/04-22-frontdoors6.jpg" /></a></div>
Cutting out the center support was really scary. I kept worrying my house was gonna fall in or something. LOL. I did talk Gene into putting in a big header over the door. We hadn't planned it that way but we both were happy in the long run we did it.<br />
<br />
<br />
{Insert pictures of us installing door}<br />
{Insert lots of cussing}<br />
<br />
I tend not to take a lot of photos when I'm wanting to kick something down the steps. If it weren't so heavy I might have. We were both pretty frustrated with installing it. It took some creative adjustments (and luck) and we finally got it. It's not perfect, but that's why god made trim work.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tnxGvQ3WdSg/UXV3kWvhOiI/AAAAAAAAE2U/nZsUisLfUUs/s1600/04-22-frontdoors7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tnxGvQ3WdSg/UXV3kWvhOiI/AAAAAAAAE2U/nZsUisLfUUs/s1600/04-22-frontdoors7.jpg" /></a></div>
The almost finished product. The view on the left will eventually have a wide stair steps leading up to the deck. I've always wanted a big wide set of steps, I think they're pretty. On the right you can see how pretty the decking is going up to the house now.<br />
<br />
We still have to add all the trim, and we'll be adding some outdoor light fixtures on both sides of the doors. <br />
<br />
Gene will be doing the electrical. Heaven help us. LOL.<br />
Actually, he's done work before and did a really good job so I trust he'll do a good job. The electricity has to be rerouted over the door as it used to go under the window.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ynlGzSYvZmc/UXV3l2pOPrI/AAAAAAAAE2c/RE8SNMKYWmM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ynlGzSYvZmc/UXV3l2pOPrI/AAAAAAAAE2c/RE8SNMKYWmM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors8.jpg" /></a></div>
Old door.<br />
New door. <br />
<br />
I think we made the right choice.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jtuKbmPmpTc/UXV3sqlDMkI/AAAAAAAAE2s/PwgTi-crxpM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors9.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-jtuKbmPmpTc/UXV3sqlDMkI/AAAAAAAAE2s/PwgTi-crxpM/s1600/04-22-frontdoors9.jpg" /></a></div>
And here is the new handles. I only cried once doing this. Nope, it wasn't hard to do, actually you can put the handles on in less than 10 min. I, however, screwed up and there's now a hole in the wrong spot. You can't see it on the outside, but you can on the inside. I broke into tears and Gene handled it better than I did. <br />
<br />
THIS IS WHY I CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS!<br />
<br />
lol. I'll fix it, and then I'll hyperfocus on it for as long as I live here.<br />
<br />
Anyway, so I had to buy 2 door handles, and the one on the left doesn't have the guts in it so it doesn't actually work. That includes the deadbolt. Tell me if it's weird to have a deadbolt on the left that doesn't work. I'll have to try to find a cover plate of some sorts otherwise, which I'm having a hard time doing.<br />
<br />
On the right is the pretty stained glass. I really like it, but now I'm worried a little bit about privacy and people being able to see inside night/day. Do you have windows doors with big windows? How do you handle privacy? I really hate to put a curtain on it and cover it up after spending all that money on it!<br />
<br />
This project I would put on a difficulty scale of 3.5 out of 5 chickens. (poor half chicken). If the only power tool you've ever run is a kitchenaid, then I suggest you hire it out. Having said that, you can learn all of this!! I have found that home improvement shows are very educational and what you don't know for sure, there's someone on Youtube that is teaching you how to do it so do new things!<br />
<br />
When finished, we'll have about $1000-$1100 into this project.<br />
If we would have hired the whole thing out, we would be out around $3500-$4000.<br />
<br />
Savings of $2400-$3000!!<br />
<br />
Learn to do some of these things on your own my friends. You'll have such an enormouse amount of pride in what you do, and at the same time, you'll build lots of free value in your home.<br />

A few months ago, at the beginning of winter, I reported that Tanner purchased a new kayak. A couple weeks ago, said kayak *finally* made it on the water. I, being mommy of the year (always), drove 15 miles just to take a few pics.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Which he didn't like because they weren't senior picture-y enough.</div>

Damn ingrate.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In other news, his other ride suffered. He was driving down Main Street in stop and go traffic. He stopped, but the girl behind him didn't so the old Jeep's tail in got bashed in. He's now trying to sell it so he can combine that money with his insurance money and buy something else - which he's been shopping for since about 12 minutes after he got the Jeep and realized it wasn't a 2013 model.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He keeps showing me pictures of mustangs and corvettes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Yeah good luck with that kid.</div>

<br />
<br />
We are proud to announce our new adventure! <a href="http://www.ruralbride.com/">www.ruralbride.com</a>
<br />
<br />
I've been thinking for a long time about creating a blog that's inspirational for brides like the ones we find in towns around America just like my town (Maryville, MO). As I have shot so many weddings here, I realized that there's probably a lot more brides taking the VFW or the community gym and turning it into a "ballroom" than there are "ballroom brides".
<br />
<br />
I find them inspirational because they have taken something very rough around the edges and created something incredibly beautiful in the process. It was then, that I knew that there were other brides struggling with the same issues. That's why <a href="http://www.ruralbride.com/">www.ruralbride.com</a> was created - to bring all those people together.
<br />
<br />
I hope you'll visit the blog and visit it often. Please put it in your feed burner or your bookmarks. We're still doing a bit of work on the site here and there, but we're 90% there.
This is what has consumed my life lately!
<br />
<br />
Right now we're having a <a href="http://www.ruralbride.com/book-review-the-diy-bride-giveaway/">special giveaway</a>. If you like our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/RuralBride">facebook page</a>, you're entered to win a DIY Bride book! And sadly, I think at this point, "the man" is just me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WnwvRH-9O90/UVEPj6iceOI/AAAAAAAAEzs/tzNUCorEpxI/s1600/03-25-briefcase.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-WnwvRH-9O90/UVEPj6iceOI/AAAAAAAAEzs/tzNUCorEpxI/s1600/03-25-briefcase.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
I've gotten really busy... driving to a secondary location to "work" has been good in ways, annoying in others - we haven't worked out all the kinks yet but I kind of like my little "apartment in the city" as we call it.<br />
<br />
One thing that I realized was becoming a problem was keeping track of all the things in my life that needed toting back and forth. Calendars (multiple ones for different projects), notebooks with project ideas, my kindle, phones, etc etc. God forbid I want to carry something extra like an actual book. You know, I don't think carrying your work stuff in a Wal-mart bag is really all that professional. Ya think?<br />
<br />
I finally deduced that I needed something and pulled out my old leather planner.<br />
<br />
I used it one day and realized it was still too small.<br />
<br />
So, I caved and bought a briefcase. I'm now "the man". I feel like a traveling salesman ready to sell you a brand new Fuller Brush. Sometimes I even put a sandwich in there.<br />
<br />
Can I interest you in a low rate mortage?Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-26390292355901707442013-03-15T12:04:00.000-05:002013-03-15T12:04:42.259-05:00Toy Triumph<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About 15 years ago, I was at a pretty different place in my life.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We (my ex and I) were having a rough go of it. We were pretty broke to say the least. If I could do things different (I probably wouldn't because where I am now is because where I was then), I would probably think a little wiser about money.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But it ended up being a good thing because being really scared teaches you something. It teaches you where you don't want to be.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We got into a debt repayment program and avoided a bankruptcy which is always a good thing. After a couple years things started to turn around about the same time we needed a car. We nervously went out and applied for a car loan on a Dodge Neon and got it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I loved that car. For me it symbolized that things can be fixed, things could get better. It was triumph over a low period in my life and damn I was so proud of that car. So much so that I still own it and can't bear to part with it although I've not driven it in 3 years.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I won't pretend like my life was great. That I was rolling in cash. It was just a Neon after all. A couple years later, I was on my own and finished paying off that car by myself. Another triumph - I could do it without help if I needed to!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Along comes Gene. We live our lives and slowly pay off old bills, buy a house, buy a car (more car than I ever dreamed I could have - triumph), start businesses that we always dreamed of starting, remodel a house, etc etc etc.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few years ago, I was following one of my favorite photographers blog and I loved her photos. I wanted to see what her equipment cost her because I wanted to take beautiful photos too.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I found really discouraged me. Her camera was $2000, her lenses were over $1000 each and I felt really dejected. I would never be able to afford that! I wasn't going to be able to be a great photographer. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
What I did do though, was I bought the best that cash could afford me, which was a used Canon 30D which at the time cost me around $300. I remember my heart pounding as I hit the "buy" button on that camera. I'd never bought anything so extravagant for myself ever. Every year or so, I would upgrade my equipment to the best I could afford at the time (always used) and give Gene my old camera, then sell off the 3rd wheel.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About 2-3 years ago I stopped buying equipment (I was getting by ok) and started saving for a studio to be built.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I had outgrown my 5D classic. I actually outgrew it not long after I got it. I think if you're constantly pushing your camera to it's limits, that it forces you to grow and be creative.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
"This church is made of walnut, there's 3 windows and 4 light bulbs. How am I going to make this work?" That usually meant that I would have "artistically" grainy photos and Gene wouldn't have any back up shots (the 50D couldn't handle it).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Life circumstances change. Sometimes on a path that you didn't plan but ends up being for the best. We ended up downtown Maryville with a glass shop and a photography office (no studio ... yet anyway).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'd outgrown the camera and was looking to upgrade. I decided to step over the markii and go straight to the markiii which fixed a lot of issues they'd had with the markii. In shopping, I found that new was only a few hundred bucks more than used. Why buy used when I could get brand new with a warranty for just a tiny bit more?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And just like that I did it. No fanfare, no pounding heart. Click. Done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9eSjYpOgWs/UUKNc6xp1GI/AAAAAAAAEzc/uMXJkTniVK4/s1600/03-14-camera.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-e9eSjYpOgWs/UUKNc6xp1GI/AAAAAAAAEzc/uMXJkTniVK4/s1600/03-14-camera.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Yesterday it came. My <a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007FGYZFI/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B007FGYZFI&linkCode=as2&tag=ceafirstu-20" target="_blank">brand new markiii</a>. It's the first pro camera I've ever had that was brand new.<br />
<br />
When it got here, I was a little teary-eyed. Not because it was an exciting new toy (ok maybe a little of that) but because it was a little like that Dodge Neon 13 years ago. <br />
<br />
I did that. I can do it. I didn't need any help.<br />
Dammit, I think I'm successful.<br />
<br />
Rarely do I feel proud of myself - most creatives are that way. We all think we suck. But I've afforded myself a day or two to feel proud of myself and wonder ahead. Can things get better? What might be the next great thing that can happen if we stay on this track? <br />
<br />
Live is already really great right now, so at this point, it's all gravy.<br />

years ago used to be a car lot/gas station. What I've found over the years, is that when a place is build, designed and ran by men, it's mostly utilitarian.<br />
<br />
Which makes fluffy pretty things harder for us girls.<br />
<br />
Our bathroom at the shop looked exactly like it had been occupied by men for a really, *really* long time. Brick walls, painted concrete floor (that's pretty beat up) and a mirror hung by a 6'5" man.<br />
<br />
We decided (meaning *I* decided) it had to be updated.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNMpiqb-QqI/UUKG9J6WyJI/AAAAAAAAEy0/cXnA-fU-zUs/s1600/03-14-bath1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-VNMpiqb-QqI/UUKG9J6WyJI/AAAAAAAAEy0/cXnA-fU-zUs/s1600/03-14-bath1.jpg" /></a></div>
The bakers rack was just there to hold things temporarily, but it was turning into months and months. It wobbled (the floor is slanted) and it didn't hold much. Plus what you could see was out there for the world. I was really embarassed when someone had to use the bathroom.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-je5UUE3INFY/UUKG-9EZeuI/AAAAAAAAEy8/p5_2mYlzHrc/s1600/03-14-bath2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-je5UUE3INFY/UUKG-9EZeuI/AAAAAAAAEy8/p5_2mYlzHrc/s1600/03-14-bath2.jpg" /></a></div>
Here you can see how bad the floor is. It had been painted numerous times which just chips and looks worse and worse. <br />
<br />
The sink is very ugly... of course... and to make it worse there's a bulletin board over it. <br />
Why? <br />
Well, glad you asked. It's because when they were tracking down the water issues a bunch of MEN decided to beat a hole in the wall to try to find some pipes. Which they didn't even use in the repair. *sigh* It made for a huge mess and I guess someone thought putting a bulletin board there was a great idea.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XyhpFY8cGEE/UUKHAkpjTBI/AAAAAAAAEzE/-V2qTOT2w5k/s1600/03-14-bath3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XyhpFY8cGEE/UUKHAkpjTBI/AAAAAAAAEzE/-V2qTOT2w5k/s1600/03-14-bath3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
We threw down a floor (linoleum that we already owned), bought a couple base cabinets and an upper, bought stock counter top (only had to cut off an inch) and added our small fridge in the center.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vnIdZmvg_NQ/UUKHCTU4JvI/AAAAAAAAEzM/FKaxNOq0ygY/s1600/03-14-bath4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-vnIdZmvg_NQ/UUKHCTU4JvI/AAAAAAAAEzM/FKaxNOq0ygY/s1600/03-14-bath4.jpg" /></a></div>
We bought this mirror at a garage sale last summer for $3.00. We put a board over the hole and painted it the same color as the wall then hung the mirror on it and the piece that stuck out, we put a paper towel holder on it like it was supposed to be there.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2qIfRPI7_jY/UUKHDtJoBZI/AAAAAAAAEzU/9DbK-0P9-Sg/s1600/03-14-bath5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2qIfRPI7_jY/UUKHDtJoBZI/AAAAAAAAEzU/9DbK-0P9-Sg/s1600/03-14-bath5.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Oh the opposite wall, I hung mirrors that I spray painted. I find these mirrors at garage sales for $1-$3 and just pop out the mirror and spray paint it. Super cheap and really cute. I'll probably had a couple small canvases here too.<br />
<br />
We still have to stain/varnish the cabinets and add some more artwork to be cute, but in the meantime it's pretty darn acceptable.<br />
<br />
This remodel was under $500. I could have done it cheaper but I just wanted it done instead of messing with it for a long time. The base cabinets are not anchored to the wall so if we ever leave we can take them all with us. The uppers we used 2 holes that were already in the wall so we did no more damage (no one cares anyway), and we can take it down and take it with us too.<br />
<br />
We'd be like the beverly hillbillies, carrying around our bathroom on the top of our jeep.<br />
<br />
I keep telling Gene that it's only one shower stall away from being our apartment in "the city". Really, that's Gene's shot across the bow. He better be nice or it's HIS apartment in the city. <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D8hGTYBWDus/UT6Ols8lz2I/AAAAAAAAEw8/MR2E-OHOatM/s1600/03-11-boots.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-D8hGTYBWDus/UT6Ols8lz2I/AAAAAAAAEw8/MR2E-OHOatM/s1600/03-11-boots.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
"My feet are cold." I've said this pretty much every wintery day (and some summery days) for most of my life. I'm pretty sure I have the worst circulation in NW Missouri.<br />
<br />
I hear exercise fixes that.<br />
<br />
bwhahahahaha.<br />
<br />
So I got to the point I was wearing 2 pair of socks a day and I was still constantly cold. I finally decided to break down and look for something warmer. It just so happened that Kohls had some fake uggs on clearance. Normally I can't wear boots because of my ugly fat calves, but these had little stretchy buttons on the side.<br />
<br />
I hemmed and hawwed over the $31.00 purchase and finally broke down and bought them (oh and another pair of boots too. A girl can't have too many shoes).<br />
<br />
Probably the best decision I've made in months. Not only do I wear them 16 hours a day (when I'm not sleeping), my feet are rarely cold. I had a super cold shoot yesterday and when I left, my feet were STILL WARM. Let me tell you, that's a monumental task.<br />
<br />
Now I want the real thing. And um... they're a tad bit more expensive.<br />
<br />
Stand out of the way, I might have to bat my eyelashes and say "pwease" to get what I want.<br />
<br />
This calls for a fake ugg haiku!<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
Warm and fuzzy toes,</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
my fake uggs you complete me.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Bring on the real boots!</div>

We've been so busy lately, a lot of stuff going on in our world, but the recent business development is that we had our official ribbon cutting this week! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The Chamber offers this for all new businesses and we took them up on it. It's a great way to get you name out one more time (and it works, we've had lots of walk-ins this week). </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We expected 4-5 people to show up for the cutting and we hard closer to 15. It was kind of funny seeing us all gathered around our little office, but everyone really liked the new shop. Since it was all cleaned up and I had it decorated cute, I took a few shots. This is when I realized I hadn't shared pics of the office yet! oops.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N38GlzLPBjo/UTv0qj7VL0I/AAAAAAAAEv8/_-RN0Lup5y8/s1600/03-09-office.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-N38GlzLPBjo/UTv0qj7VL0I/AAAAAAAAEv8/_-RN0Lup5y8/s1600/03-09-office.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--i9u0KN7oVE/UTv0sqADjHI/AAAAAAAAEwE/9PIoUFCgAjw/s1600/03-09-office2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/--i9u0KN7oVE/UTv0sqADjHI/AAAAAAAAEwE/9PIoUFCgAjw/s1600/03-09-office2.jpg" /></a></div>
I have some of my watercolors at the shop. I'm going to be dedicating a corner to my artwork at some point. I doubt I'll sell a lot there, but it makes me happy.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bJRy8XIT050/UTv0uKEdCPI/AAAAAAAAEwM/58AnB9GXsEQ/s1600/03-09-office3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-bJRy8XIT050/UTv0uKEdCPI/AAAAAAAAEwM/58AnB9GXsEQ/s1600/03-09-office3.jpg" /></a></div>
I have a small collection of bell jars (LOVE!) and Gene found my latest one. It was a great deal, but BIG. So we put it on display at the shop. Love it there.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OImoqZ_71aw/UTv0x3Z3BpI/AAAAAAAAEwc/cRPO1OZkfz4/s1600/03-09-office4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-OImoqZ_71aw/UTv0x3Z3BpI/AAAAAAAAEwc/cRPO1OZkfz4/s1600/03-09-office4.jpg" /></a></div>
Here is a shot into the corner where the bathroom is, and also at our desk. It was actually a glass table that we got a great deal on. I'm still contemplating getting something different as there's really no storage.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dC6lpnzmrRE/UTv008NLfGI/AAAAAAAAEwk/yDZvuH0_wss/s1600/03-09-office5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-dC6lpnzmrRE/UTv008NLfGI/AAAAAAAAEwk/yDZvuH0_wss/s1600/03-09-office5.jpg" /></a></div>
That couch, well, we might have to have a sacrificial fire if we ever leave there. We had to take the door off the hinges to get it in the office. oops.<br />
<br />
However, I really love it and it really warms up the office.<br />
<br />
I think it's safe to say, we have the cutest glass shop waiting room in probably 4 states.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hGjvSVEBmKQ/UTv02rJUvBI/AAAAAAAAEws/Qb7Sa6aFOU0/s1600/03-09-office6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-hGjvSVEBmKQ/UTv02rJUvBI/AAAAAAAAEws/Qb7Sa6aFOU0/s1600/03-09-office6.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Uh-oh.<br />
This just got real.<br />
<br />
Ohhhh... and... I got our <a href="http://www.advantageglassexperts.com/" target="_blank">new website</a> done (well, almost. Long story).<br />
<br />
And on that note, I've been working on ANOTHER business project (a whole new business!!) I'll be sharing that with you next week. It's going to be pretty much awesome.<br />

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Os7yLXm5Wc/USmW8TRE8OI/AAAAAAAAEt4/iEnV3OnqWV0/s1600/02-22-geese-1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-4Os7yLXm5Wc/USmW8TRE8OI/AAAAAAAAEt4/iEnV3OnqWV0/s1600/02-22-geese-1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About a week ago, the Squaw Creek Reserve posted on facebook that their numbers of geese went from over a million one week, to down to just over 100,000 in a little over a week. They guessed it was the geese trying to be ahead of the front that came through our area late last week.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was really amazed at this number, how SO MANY geese knew to leave. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Later I was thinking about this number as I came home and looked up. It's not often this time of year that you see no geese at all. We even have a small grouping of snow geese that lives in the field across from our house this time of year, and even they were gone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It seemed really strange and kind of eery for them to be gone.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Thursday the snow came, and although it struck Kansas City pretty hard, Maryville was fairly unscathed. Yes, we had snow, but nothing major that we couldn't handle (about 4-5 inches).</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Friday morning, that was a different story. I woke up in the morning to a flock of geese flying over my house honking and it made me smile to know they were back. Despite me thinking they were the worlds dumbest creatures (I never see them fly south, just "around"), I was wrong. They knew when to come back when the coast was clear and they didn't need a meterologist to tell them to go clean the shelves of snow shovels, bread, milk and rock salt.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Friday, driving home from work, I see down my road not far from my house some movement. It was a sea of white dots moving across the road and that's when I knew they were back, in full force. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Walking up my steps I looked up again and some were flying so low it almost seemed like you could reach up and touch them. A sea of geese everywhere.</div>

</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So let me give you some advice.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Next time you see 3/4 of a million snow geese bugging out of town. It's time to go buy milk.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-54149315730630399762013-02-21T21:11:00.001-06:002013-02-21T21:12:57.208-06:00I have a problem.. I'm turning into a Pott head.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So a about a year ago, I got really tired of hearing references to Harry Potter that I really didn't "get". Quite frankly, unless your pop culture reference is to the Brady Bunch, Friends or Michael Jackson, I'm probably not going to get it. I'm quite "dated" I tell ya.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So anyway, I vowed that I'd finally read at least the first one in the series and set out to get download it on Amazon.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
BAM</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Road block. It seems that, at the time, JK Rowlings decided that she only wanted people to read the books by actually holding a book. She was pretty adamant about it. The thing is, I have a kindle and didn't want to have to sit up with a light on at night (which I'm pretty sure Gene wouldn't tolerate) to read a book.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I checked back about a month or 2 ago, and voila! You can now check them out on amazon for FREE. Yep. *free*.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
As my father-in-law says, you know what's better than a Harry Potter book?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A FREE Harry Potter book.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sgbJGExxtms/USbePN4qj-I/AAAAAAAAEs8/tFvpAae1ojs/s1600/2-21-potter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sgbJGExxtms/USbePN4qj-I/AAAAAAAAEs8/tFvpAae1ojs/s1600/2-21-potter.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
Just so you know, that's totally how they rope you in. By the third book, I was in the middle of the month, a good 14 days away from another check out (only one per month) and I was dying to know what happened next.<br />
<br />
So, needless to day, I now have an account at Pottermore.com<br />
Yep, me and a bunch of 14 year olds.<br />
<br />
It's ok, now I know that there are things like hats, and tshirts and phone cases and pajamas but most of all, they have wands.<br />
I really want a WAND. OK I ADMIT IT.<br />
<br />
I have a list of people I want to turn into a frog, and I really need a wand for that.<br />
<br />
I see myself in the future doing some watercolors of wands and owls.<br />
<br />
I also want an owl.<br />
Preferably a little one like Pigwidgeon. Someone make that happen ok?<br />
<br />
Because Gene thinks he's annoyed at my little kindle light shining in his face NOW? Wait til I have an owl in my bedroom sending notes back and forth to all my friends. <br />
<br />
Joke's on you, I have no friends.Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-27531635037155181452013-02-11T23:26:00.000-06:002013-02-11T23:31:58.546-06:00Aspens, owls and deer, a work in progressThis is what I've been spending most of my evenings doing this past few weeks. Painting, a glass of Moscato, sometimes watching Sherlock Holmes. Man I'm a dork. But I've found it's a much better way to spend my time then surfing the internet or watching TV.<br />
<br />
I thought you might like to see what goes into the process of <br />

<div style="text-align: center;">

Draw out my trees and animals, mask out what I want to save.<br />

Masking takes several hours to do. Plus masking fluid smells like a rotten mouse in a dirty gym sock. blech. I then taped off my margins<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen3.jpg" title="02-11-aspen3" width="750" /></div>
This is the fastest part. Laying out the wash. Only took about 15 min to get this far.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen4.jpg" title="02-11-aspen4" width="750" /></div>
After it dries (my watercolor board warped - no biggie), I start laying in more details. (Sherlock BBC playing on my kindle as I paint!)<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen5.jpg" title="02-11-aspen5" width="750" /></div>
Giving the leaves more texture. It's the beginning of dozens of layers.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen6.jpg" title="02-11-aspen6" width="750" /></div>
The fun part! Removing the masking fluid. It's very cathardic.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen7.jpg" title="02-11-aspen7" width="750" /></div>
You can see the tree detail here. I guess I didn't take any pics while painting the trees. Which takes FOREVER. Especially since there's several dozen trees here. And I'm anal about it.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen8.jpg" title="02-11-aspen8" width="750" /></div>
Trees are done! Time for the critters<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen9.jpg" title="02-11-aspen9" width="750" /></div>
My owl in the tree is finished. I love this little guy. So cute.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen10.jpg" title="02-11-aspen10" width="750" /></div>
Final touches on the flying owl. Kinda proud of this pic... shot upside down so I could shoot with my left hand. LOL<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen11.jpg" title="02-11-aspen11" width="750" /></div>
Beginning washes on my deer.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="512" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen12.jpg" title="02-11-aspen12" width="750" /></div>
Ahh... instant gratification, pulling off the tape when finished! It's very much like an instant frame!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="542" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen14.jpg" title="02-11-aspen14" width="750" /></div>
Finished flying owl.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<img alt="" class="p3-insert-all size-full aligncenter" height="542" src="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/02-11-aspen15.jpg" title="02-11-aspen15" width="750" /></div>
Finished deer. Well, almost I think. I really feel like they need something else so I might do some more touch ups.<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R0_lhFg0VqQ/URnR71qST0I/AAAAAAAAEsA/beqJc6xs1LA/s1600/02-11-aspen16.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="283" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R0_lhFg0VqQ/URnR71qST0I/AAAAAAAAEsA/beqJc6xs1LA/s640/02-11-aspen16.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
It's 40 inches long, 20 inches high. Biggest piece I've done (and probably will ever do).<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-R0_lhFg0VqQ/URnR71qST0I/AAAAAAAAEsA/beqJc6xs1LA/s1600/02-11-aspen16.jpg" target="_blank">Click here</a> to see it larger.<br />
<br />
I did this painting this time, just because I felt like doing it. I'd been pressuring myself to work on show pieces and I wasn't doing as well. I decided to cut myself some slack and I enjoyed the process much better. I've also decided to start working on some pieces for a book I want to do. It may or may not ever happen, who knows but I'll share some of the pieces as I go. I'm thinking if I have fun with it, and create some pieces I love, then a show will just happen, and maybe that book will be a great tie-in for a show.<br />
<br />
I keep having people ask me how much I'll sell it for, and this I have not decided. Not sure if I even want to sell it, which is really bad for a buyer because that means I'll mark it on the high side. If you make me give it up, I'm going to make you pay for the priveledge. LOL.<br />
<br />
I'm not very good at this sales thing am I?Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-40080495960006143362013-02-08T08:30:00.000-06:002013-02-08T08:30:02.221-06:00Fake it til you make it - how to be an "artist"<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One thing about moving into a space that has been empty for a while (our shop was nothing for around 5 years), it will definitely need some updating and TLC. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
One thing about this shop that I really HATE is this hideous air condition (wall unit) sticking out of the middle of the wall. WTheck am I supposed to do with that ugly thing?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Maybe I could throw some mud at it and call it "inspirational art". Although I highly doubt anyone would find it inspirational.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bO9n1IwSEKU/URKqE65wQ4I/AAAAAAAAEq8/q0S9AsWCHAg/s1600/2-5-ac.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bO9n1IwSEKU/URKqE65wQ4I/AAAAAAAAEq8/q0S9AsWCHAg/s1600/2-5-ac.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We needed to keep it so it was be accessable in the summer time. After all, there's a fair amount of glass here (ha) and it's going to get hot in this office in the summer. I'll actually probably appreciate this A/C unit a little more come July. In the meantime, It needs to be prettier.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I came up with the idea to make a box and paint it then hang a large print on it. Boom! Done.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
However, once I started to paint it .... this happened:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UKYupd1yRIY/URKqGvRY8YI/AAAAAAAAErE/1xPoba9U47w/s1600/2-5-ac2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-UKYupd1yRIY/URKqGvRY8YI/AAAAAAAAErE/1xPoba9U47w/s1600/2-5-ac2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I was liking how the paint was streaky and showing layers of color so... I left it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We hung it on the wall to just let it percolate a little while and we both ended up liking it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I guess I'll pretend like it's inspirational art after all. I shall call it "the cool box" (puns intended.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Remember when my water heater blew up a couple weeks ago? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And remember when I was trying to organize my life? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Remember how much I love shoes?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, those things collided. Gene's not thrilled about it, but too bad.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYybZDKmoN4/UQhHBOCMDVI/AAAAAAAAEpY/RkJi7tsr37w/s1600/01-29-water1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-cYybZDKmoN4/UQhHBOCMDVI/AAAAAAAAEpY/RkJi7tsr37w/s1600/01-29-water1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We installed our new water heater. Well, I say "we" in the sense of "Gene". Gene installed our new water heater. Can I get a "Hell Yeah!" for handy men? Can I get another "Hell Yeah!" for clean feet?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
In the processe of that happening, the "door" that was on the closet that held the water heater was shot. Now when I call it a door, it's only a door in the sense that it covered a hole and nothing better than that. It was a couple pieces of crappy drywall screwed to some plywood.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Know what happens when that gets wet? </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
yeah... it's really gross.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So in the middle of my master closet is a gaping hole with a shiny new water heater in it. I still think that the person that designed this concept was a raging moron, but when your feet are dirty (you don't want to know what I was standing in) you'll take what you can get.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So I'd had this idea for a while for that space in front of the water heater anyway and since I'd had to do a mass exodus of everything in the bottom of my closet (which was a lot for the record) I decided now was as good of time as any.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I proclaimed "we shall build a shoe rack"</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
And Gene moaned.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2WufxU03uzM/UQhHBpdrnII/AAAAAAAAEpg/ZOQcT3PMGOA/s1600/01-29-water2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2WufxU03uzM/UQhHBpdrnII/AAAAAAAAEpg/ZOQcT3PMGOA/s1600/01-29-water2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So last weekend we went to the lumber yard, bought some pre painted shelves (because it was cheap and easy) and cut them into 2' lengths.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKWH2VAih6U/UQhHCDqhn1I/AAAAAAAAEpo/I8hxqlyHyRI/s1600/01-29-water3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-JKWH2VAih6U/UQhHCDqhn1I/AAAAAAAAEpo/I8hxqlyHyRI/s1600/01-29-water3.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
He's so bubbly and estatic can you tell?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hpf2DHFdN_E/UQhHCzxEhkI/AAAAAAAAEpw/NiH98iptoHc/s1600/01-29-water4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Hpf2DHFdN_E/UQhHCzxEhkI/AAAAAAAAEpw/NiH98iptoHc/s1600/01-29-water4.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It was pretty simple at this point. We just screwed through the sides to attach the shelves. Since you can't really see the sides, I didn't worry about the screw heads. If I were in a situation where the sides would be seen, I would probably either counter sink them and fill the holes, or possibly I'd attach the shelves from the inside.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joayCTdsnrw/UQhHDb74a_I/AAAAAAAAEp4/2QR7y6elgt8/s1600/01-29-water5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-joayCTdsnrw/UQhHDb74a_I/AAAAAAAAEp4/2QR7y6elgt8/s1600/01-29-water5.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I bought a thin piece of plywood to cover the back of it. Originally I was going to just paint it white, but as I went to get the paint, I saw my pretty turquoise blue paint that I loovvvvvve and changed my mind.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PcY5vmHMxEA/UQhHEYnvtWI/AAAAAAAAEqA/E4Jj53nDYT0/s1600/01-29-water6.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-PcY5vmHMxEA/UQhHEYnvtWI/AAAAAAAAEqA/E4Jj53nDYT0/s1600/01-29-water6.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The next morning, Gene screwed the plywood to the back and we pushed it in place in front of the door. Easy peasy! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
No really, anyone can do this. All you really need is a drill. Want the boards cut? Most lumber yards will cut boards down to length for you for a little bit for each cut. If you bat your eyelashes and stick out your boobies, maybe even less than that.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Having said that, they never give me a deal on cutting a board for me. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I guess I shouldn't expect them to do that for Gene when he sticks out his boobies.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just add shoes, and pixie dust and music falls around you. LOVE my new shoe rack. It's so much neater around the house now (I really didn't have a lot of places to put shoes.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
We also removed the closet door as I realized we never shut the thing and it takes up real estate. Someday when we remodel, I'll be putting a barn door hardware on a slide across that door anyway.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Tangent: Dearest Torrie. I love you. Do you want this damn door cuz I'm fixing to throw a match on it. I love you. Lana</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
So if you want to make your own shoe rack, don't be scared. Buy a drill, get hex head bits/screws (smartest thing ever). Organize your shoes. Be happy.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Ignore husband.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The end.</div>
<br />Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-13293683578633646152013-01-29T14:52:00.001-06:002013-01-29T14:52:33.867-06:00In out in out in out in out in out in out. Pick one.<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2PCFdM_t4iQ/UQg0BlHYtwI/AAAAAAAAEo4/dTzSxp5YTP4/s1600/01-28-boo1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2PCFdM_t4iQ/UQg0BlHYtwI/AAAAAAAAEo4/dTzSxp5YTP4/s1600/01-28-boo1.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Sometimes I think, that we as humans think we can do better for a "helpless" critter than they can do for themselves.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
At least I felt that way when Boo came to live inside. If you've followed here at all, you know that Boo is a feral cat that showed up at my house one day looking for food. I fed him, and he stayed. He's in the background of almost every single outdoor photo I'd taken for a year. Nearly my constant companion while outside doing something he deemed "interesting" enough to take part in. Which probably means "she might feed me!" in his little head.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Frequently in the evening, a little white cat would come to our living room window and peek in as we watched our evening shows. If the window was open, he wouldn't be scared to hang on the window screen to show his loyalty.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
About November, the neighbors warned my husband that they'd be putting out poison for possums that kept making his horses sick. He knew the little white cat hung out down at our house and was worried he might get caught up in the poison. In he came, and he's been inside ever since.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NgTB_fWSUtc/UQg0CKCc1RI/AAAAAAAAEpA/EXm3o69YzSs/s1600/01-28-boo2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-NgTB_fWSUtc/UQg0CKCc1RI/AAAAAAAAEpA/EXm3o69YzSs/s1600/01-28-boo2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
But you know, he always feels a little "caged". Like he THOUGHT being inside would be a good idea, but now that he's thought about it a bit, he's rethinking his stance.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eVJ0xP7Quzk/UQg0CpX8MJI/AAAAAAAAEpI/V-H3wbpKBEs/s1600/01-28-boo3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-eVJ0xP7Quzk/UQg0CpX8MJI/AAAAAAAAEpI/V-H3wbpKBEs/s1600/01-28-boo3.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
He frequently stares outside pensively like he's got something important that he's supposed to be doing and it's *out there*. <br />
<br />
I was getting the front end view of that pose for a year, and now this.<br />
<br />
So a couple times he's jumped outside and I let him. I'm morally opposed to outdoor cats as they don't have as long of a lifespan as indoor cats. I've started to wonder though, is he happy inside? Because I'm confident that a lion can live a longer life in a cage too, but is that really where he wants to be?<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nC9IkE0wYiE/UQg0DfLYVnI/AAAAAAAAEpQ/sJGsAtOEUgU/s1600/01-28-boo4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-nC9IkE0wYiE/UQg0DfLYVnI/AAAAAAAAEpQ/sJGsAtOEUgU/s1600/01-28-boo4.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
So come spring, I may toy with the idea of letting Boo be an indoor/outdoor cat. I'll hope he comes in at night because, let's face it, the loss of his dangly bits and the never ending cat food bowl has given him a little bit of a trailer park waddle. I'm no longer sure he can outrun a coyote.<br />
<br />
But don't tell Jingles that, because he's kicking his ass on a regular basis.<br />
still.Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-78456725949386432362013-01-21T22:52:00.004-06:002013-01-21T22:52:46.464-06:00More than you'd ever want to knowGene and I have been in the news recently. Twice actually. It seems opening up an entirely new store front attracts some attention.<br />
<br />
whodathunkit.<br />
<br />
If you'd like to read the article that the Maryville Daily Forum wrote about us a week or so ago, <a href="http://www.ceasefirestudios.net/2013/01/in-the-news/" target="_blank">click here</a> to go to our website.<br />
<br />
It implies that I might like that guy I'm married to.<br />
Don't let 'em fool ya.<br />

Remember how I told you I was going to reduce the clutter in my life? Well, I think I told you that anyway. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I'm overwhelmed and want some things just to go AWAY. It's been almost overwhelming with junk and I've suddenly lost my sentimentality over pretty much everything (except my painting stuff and photos. That's it.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, I found a way yesterday to make that process go a lot faster.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/3638820800_2250f159e5_o.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2484/3638820800_2250f159e5_o.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Just let a pipe attached to your water heater (that's in your master closet) burst. Fortunately (and you rarely say fortunately when you're talking about plumbing) I just so happened to be sitting about 4 feet away on the other side of the wall when it happened. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Also fortunately Gene was there.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
FORTUNATELY, we were there at all.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A plumbing "fix" that Gene did 6 years ago, really wasn't a permanent solution, but we'd treated it as such and in return, gallons and gallons of water gushed into our closet.</div>
<br />
Gene ran to the water main to shut it off. Tanner and I started bailing crap out of the closet and scampering for towels and then we started cleaning up. It really wasn't too bad, but in the process I turned and looked at the pile of crap on my bed and really just wondered what the hell it all was. I kinda wanted to just push it all into a pile and flick a match. Some things I hadn't used or touched in 5 years.<br />
<br />
So there you go, that's the fastest way to clean out your closet. <br />
<br />
I vow only 25% of it is going back in.<br />
<br />
Someone cover me.<br />
<br />
PS. No I do not have clover in my closet. It is, however, symbolic of how I felt.Mz-Cellaneoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09023522306970726492noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5793393598742416170.post-92168627954648229812013-01-15T08:00:00.000-06:002013-01-15T08:00:09.818-06:00The cobbler's children have no shoes....unless he has an inspection and licensing due, then he's kinda forced into it.<br />
<br />
It's kind of embarassing to pull up to your own glass shop with a broken windshield. But Gene's hand was forced by the great state of Missouri.<br />
Yeehaw!<br />
<br />
In Missouri, every other year your car is forced to go through the inspection process to prove that your car is road worthy. Welp, January is our month. Not sure why we thought buying a car right after christmas was such a smart idea, but we did it anyway.<br />
<br />
Stupid bad weather 3 years ago that kept leaving us stranded in our house for days.<br />
<br />
Anyway. My windshield broke, and due to a supplier that wants our business badly, we somehow managed to get a free windshield to replace it.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cease-fire-studios/8378521255/" title="01-13-crack by Cease Fire Studios {Lana}, on Flickr"><img alt="01-13-crack" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8085/8378521255_d29548a3d5_o.jpg" width="750" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
On a slower day, Gene took to it.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
First you cut it out. He used a cold knife. This is done by hand, not by a machine. This is why Gene has forearms like a pro body builder. Never pretend to squeeze his hand in a handshake. He'll crush your hand like a bug. Don't ask me how I know.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cease-fire-studios/8378521389/" title="01-13-crack2 by Cease Fire Studios {Lana}, on Flickr"><img alt="01-13-crack2" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8084/8378521389_5ec129f6ef_o.jpg" width="750" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Zoink.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Out it goes. On to the big old trash pile we're accumulating. I think we shall keep it all in a big pile out back and call it art. The city might disagree. We might need to file a permit or something.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cease-fire-studios/8379599434/" title="01-13-crack3 by Cease Fire Studios {Lana}, on Flickr"><img alt="01-13-crack3" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8218/8379599434_43493b9589_o.jpg" width="750" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Now he crawls up there and cuts out all the old urethane. This is what keeps your windshield attached to your car, and keeps you from popping out on the highway when you do the big 360. That and your seatbelt, which I am working on making myself wear more often.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cease-fire-studios/8378521597/" title="01-13-crack4 by Cease Fire Studios {Lana}, on Flickr"><img alt="01-13-crack4" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8234/8378521597_2d21858d34_o.jpg" width="750" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
*insert several steps I was too cold to take photos of*</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
Blah blah insurance, so person come help!</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
That doesn't work. Oh well. Anyway so Gene finishes setting the windshield which means new primer on the car (this keeps it all bonded together) and urethane on the pinchweld. That's the gooey stuff that gets hard.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The "gooey-to-hard process" is what has caused Gene's allergy to the very business he's in. He wears breathing protection now to help cut down on the break outs.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
He made me help him set this windshield because he wanted to take a photo of me. Only problem is, I looked like a gray slug so I'm not sharing. But pretend like a gray slug with long hair that needs recolored is setting this windshield.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cease-fire-studios/8378521725/" title="01-13-crack5 by Cease Fire Studios {Lana}, on Flickr"><img alt="01-13-crack5" height="500" src="http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8093/8378521725_4022ca475e_o.jpg" width="750" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Ta DA!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
I have a new windshield. Keeps bugs out of your teeth and rain off my pants. </div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It also now means I have a bill that I have to pay - licensing my car.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Told you it wasn't as exciting as it looks.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
