Do it yourself clouds
Have you ever wondered about plane trails and what they are made of?
OK...
So that's just me then?
The other day, the question popped into my head while watching one of my obessions - planes. I thought "why do some planes leave a trail, and some don't?"
So I decided some investigation was in order.
*to the cloud!*
(I've been dying to say that lol).
"The main byproducts of hydrocarbon fuel combustion are carbon dioxide and water vapor. At high altitudes this water vapor emerges into a cold environment, and the local increase in water vapor can push the water content of the air past saturation point. The vapor then condenses into tiny water droplets and/or deposits into ice. These millions of tiny water droplets and/or ice crystals form the vapor trail or contrails. "
So basically, planes are creating man made clouds.
Why do some planes not make clouds? Well, because they are at a different altitude.
Sadly, I think I took some of the mystique out of my plane obsession.
You can stop being so happy about that now!
